Paranormal Activity doesn't mean arts & crafts

Will LeBlanc I firmly believe that going into this movie with as little knowledge as possible is going to be the most beneficial for those people lucky enough to find a screening of it. So I'm going to do as little as possible with this review aside from just telling you whether it was good or not. And for those of you looking to get in and get out of this review: it was totally sweet, now get out of here unless you want to read a little synopsis of the story. I won't be describing scenes, I won't be dumping spoilers, but just a warning for those who want to be absolutely fresh going into a horror movie, you're already reading a review, so you may have already gone too far.
Paranormal Activity is about Katie and Micah, a normal couple living a very comfortable life by the looks of their pimpin' house, until some strange events start occurring that get progressively more frequent and progressively stronger. Micah takes it upon himself to try to capture some of these phenomena on camera while they sleep, with some pretty interesting results.
That's about as much as I want to say mainly because that's about all that happens. A good 30 minutes of the already very short film is seen from the familiar position that you all saw in the trailer, the night vision shot of the bed and the open door with tendencies to move without anyone's help. Everything in-between is shot with the same camera by one of the two actors, but mainly it's Micah, who inadvertently instigates one of my problems with the movie.
My problems with Paranormal Activity are few and one I won't even mention because I don't want to take any of the mystique away from anyone's first (and probably only) viewing. But like I said, Micah has a tendency to film Katie whenever she doesn't want to be filmed which just turns into scenes of her telling him to shut the camera off or "this isn't helping." It wasn't all that annoying, it was just a trend I started to notice and wanted it to stop in lieu of other awesome things.
I just want to take a second to say that the hand-held style is hear to stay so if you don't like Blair Witch, Cloverfield, or shows like The Shield, then you need to get over yourself. Sure you can always say that Paranormal is this decades Blair Witch, but to me that isn't necessarily a bad thing. So "It's too much like Blair Witch bawwwww" isn't a valid argument against this movie in my eyes. Get over your motion sickness and just take it and like it already.
If you were like me and were scared shitless by The Blair Witch Project and The Ring, then you will not be spending much time sleeping after you see Paranormal Activity. It's scary as hell and most of the scary shit goes down in the bedroom at night. I'm not gonna lie, before I left for the theater, I turned the light on in my bedroom and put a pillow on my couch in preparation of being scared out of my pants, and it's a good thing I did because I have to walk through my room to go to the bathroom, but no way was I sleeping in that bed. Fuck that. Maybe tonight (3 nights later) I'll man up.
Paranormal Activity is sure to put heavy amounts of the creeps on you, turning all of your senses up to overdrive. You'll hear more, you'll see more, and you'll certainly feel more as you won't be able to shake that feeling that someone is watching you for quite some time. If you need a new movie to scare the ever living shit out of you and give you a few really good laughs, Paranormal Activity is the perfect film for you. Cool story, perfect amount of comic relief, great execution.

Very nice review. This sounds like the PERFECT movie for me. Being that most recent horror movies fail to scare me, which is the reason to watch them right? really sweet review and ill definitely be trying to find this in the video store when it comes out.
Good review, too bad AMC Universal employees suck ass.
Hahaha generally you should watch horror movies for a good scare Aaron yes. As long as you thought Blair Witch was scary, then Paranormal will scare your pants off.
I'm a big fan of your reviews for a couple of reasons, "Get over your motion sickness and just take it and like it already."
this is the best example I can find so far.
p.s. You should start using this phrase more often.
saw it yesterday. i went with a bunch of people that were laughing and just generally being annoying. tried to ignore their stupidity and watch the movie which worked. scared the crap out of me. i would definitely recommend it to people that like getting into scary movies. if you're going to go see it don't be a jackass and try to act "cool". It's a scary movie so get into that mode and try not to cry. great review, as usual.
Wow, I thought this moved sucked ass. Like, TREMENDOUS ammounts. I also hated the Blair Witch and did not find either scary. Me and a group of friends went and saw Blair With night one that it came out, late showing, and then snuck into Odiorne State park and ran around like goons. Not scary at all. A few banging jump scares here and there, wow... Man am I sick of horror movies sucking ass. I have not watched The Orphanage yet but I am going to soon and if it sucks balls then this genre is dead to me.
Paranormal is really a love it or hate it scenario. But I'll guarantee that you'll enjoy The Orphanage. As long as you dont go in expecting it do be nothing but gory kills and bullshit then you wont be disappointed
