Lock, Stock and Two Smoking LOBOs

Not only is Fox trying to flex its comic book muscles at Disney by saying they're going to reboot Marvel's Fantastic 4 franchise, now DC has announced that they are going to be producing Lobo, a property about a big blue skinned alien bounty hunter who does nothing but kick huge amount of ass while looking totally awesome doing it. And oh yeah, he tools around on a tricked out space motorcycle. Pretty rad eh? Seriously, look how awesome he is.

Well DC not only announced their intention to film Lobo, but they've already got a director on board in the form of Guy Ritchie, director of Snatch, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and the upcoming Christmas release Sherlock Holmes, which I'm real damn excited for. Looking at this resume it sorta looks like Guy Ritchie also kicks a huge amount of ass, so pairing him with Lobo should create this vortex of ass kickery that will only bring devastation to a theater near you.

This is of course as long as they ditch the supposed "Lobo comes to Earth and teams up with a teenage girl to find outlaw aliens" throughline and don't cast someone like Chris Pine to play Lobo. Did I mention Lobo is 7 feet tall? I'm sure we'll see someone like Tyler Mane hopping in there since he's so hot right now after Halloween...........

Shooting starts next year under the supervision of Akiva Goldsman, and Joel Silver who are also producing DC's The Losers, with Goldsman also producing Jonah Hex. They are aiming for a PG-13 rating, which they may be able to hit since, in the same vein as Battlestar Galactica, Lobo uses the term 'Fraggin' instead of its less MPAA friendly counterpart. However, judging by the above picture, they may have some other R-rated hurdles to jump over. Variety has the full scoop.
