New poster for JC's AVATAR

A new poster for Avatar was released by 20th Century Fox today and it's pretty cool. It's our first real look at Neytiri, played by Zoe Saldana (Star Trek), one of the Na'vi, the species native to the planet on which Avatar takes place. The poster itself is pretty cool, but it takes some looking at to decide whether or not it's CG or a person in make up. It is the former, for those of you who don't know.

I'm sort of glad that after Comic Con there have been some people taking this film down off the pedestal it's been placed on. My expectations were so high I don't know how it could have measured up. But now some reports are saying that while the footage does look amazing, it's not going to be quite the cinematic game changer that it was initially thought to be.

One thing is for sure though, disregarding the poster completely, the little taste of the soundtrack that plays over the website is awesome. It's actually playing in the background while I write this and I can't seem to shut it off. It's not spectacularly epic or anything, it just sounds like a movie. I can't really explain it. The music sets a big part of the tone for a film, and I feel like there's generational shifts in music that you can plainly hear. The snippet from Avatar sounds like it's pulled out of my golden age of film, the late 80's early 90's. Click the image to head to the site and give a listen.

Check out the poster below and tell me if you think it looks real, or if you think it looks like an oil painting.
