A day of Threequels: Bad Boys 3 on the books

The Hollywood Reporter filled us in today that Columbia pictures has sent the call to Peter Craig to start scribbling out a script for Bad Boys 3, which I'm sure they want to start shooting as soon as possible since it'll rake in some fat cash. That is, as long as it's done right and with the right people.

The major hurdle they're trying to overcome is price. While all of the major players are interested in doing this third installment, hot shots like Michael Bay and Will Smith cost a pretty penny these days and getting them back on a scaled down pay check will be some feat. I mean, Martin Lawrence doesn't have anything going on so he'll be no struggle to get back on board, but you need the pair to make this work.

All parties have expressed a willingness to return if a story can be hammered out. One potential hurdle, however, would be the costly deals with the players. -THR

That quote gives me hope just because it leads me to believe that they are actually willing to come back and the possibility of them doing it for fun instead of for $25mil each is increased. The movie simply won't work without the pair spouting of their usual bullshit at each other and complaining about the way the other conducts himself. And as much shit as Michael Bay gets, he knows damn well how to shoot an action film and that is not an easy thing to do. Without him the movie will flounder.

So let's hope that Peter Craig, the man with no Hollywood credits on his back, can churn out a story that will convince the big boys to work for Hollywood peanuts. Because I would love to see this movie get made the right way.
