Wizard of Oz sequel with Dakota Fanning
Currently in the hopper over in Hollywoodland is a sequel to arguably the most beloved film of all time, The Wizard of Oz. It's not going to be the sequel you might expect though, if you were expecting one at all, which let's be honest, after 70 years, who was?
One name is attached to this will give you an idea of what you might see in the film: Todd McFarlane, creator of comic book anti-hero Spawn as well as endless lines of action figures, including a series called "The Twisted World of Oz." The man puts out some wacky stuff, not that I'm not into it, I own the entire Oz set, but there's no denying that his ability to tap into darkness is rivalled by very few. He had this to say at The Guardian about what to expect:
You've still got Dorothy trapped in an odd place. But she's much closer to the Ripley character from Alien, than a helpless singing girl.
He's set in a producer capacity right now, but his influence will certainly be felt throughout the film.
Stepping into the lead role as Dorothy's grand daughter is Dakota Fanning, who kinda transformed from her somewhat Gollumesque, awkward 13-year-old self into a pretty good looking young lady in the "I'm a sexy vampire" sort of way. Seeing her in New Moon will probably be a nice fit, but will she be able to follow in Judy Garland's ruby footsteps? Time will tell. I have not read the Twilight books, but I imagine we'll see her in a bit of a darker role than what we're entirely used to which will give us a slightly better bearing on whether or not she can play such a strong female lead for Oz.

She's gonna be a gorgeous woman, I'm glad she's transitioning from a child actor into teen/adult roles, you rarely see it, and I think she'll be great
