Captain Marvel just isn't gonna happen
Captain Marvel, despite what the name itself conveys, is a DC comic hero originally created by Fawcett Comics and first published in 1939. The comic itself was titled SHAZAM! as it was the magic word uttered by Billy Batson to transform into Captain Marvel. As you can see, he was maybe a little doofy looking, but all around super hero in form and function.
Trying to make a SHAZAM! film part of its laundry list of DC comic properties its putting on film in the next few years, Warner Bros. has assigned a SIXTH writer to the project in the for of Bill Birch and DC Comics consultant Geoff Johns. The most notable of the writers who have been tossed aside in the development process is William Goldman, the man behind The Princess Bride, so they've basically given up on having a witty and fun script. But since Birch wrote for Grey's Anatomy, and Johns wrote for Blade: the Series (which I should mention starred Sticky Fingaz of Onyx fame) we can assume that Billy Batson will turn into a romantic vampire whenever he shouts SHAZAM!
I will be surprised if this movie winds up happening and I will be even more surprised if it turns out well. Movies with stacks of writers never turn into anything good.
The Hollywood Reporter has a bit more to say.
