Lionsgate to KICK-ASS in 2010

Getting turned down by just about every studio on the block didn't stop Matthew Vaughn from finding the funding to make KICK-ASS, the hyper violent Comic Con sensation that's sweeping the nation. Soon after showing at SDCC's Hall H blow out, which included panels for District 9, Twilight, and Avatar, Kick-Ass started generating some serious buzz, enough to get Universal, Lionsgate, and Paramount all chomping at the bit for North American distribution rights. See that coverage HERE.

So who won? Well, after many elbow drops, body slams, and pile drivers it seems that Lionsgate has emerged victorious and will be giving Kick-Ass a kick ass big screen run in 2010. No official word on exactly when we're going to be seeing it hit, but Vaughn is looking at March, release month for 300 as well as the Matrix.

There's a little risk involved with putting out a movie like this as it's certainly not going to appeal to the masses, but with the way it tested with audiences earlier this year it seems that Lionsgate has made a good investment.

Real the entire press release over at Ain't it Cool News.
