Dan Brown spells M-O-N-E-Y
Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons scribe Dan Brown is currently cranking out his third in the Tom Hanks/Bad Hair saga, The Lost Symbol. What does that mean to you? It means that even though the book is unfinished, Ron Howard is still gearing up to put this one on celluloid.
Obviously taking place in D.C. but according to the book's editor Jason Kauffman:
“it’s a Washington few will recognize.”
But it sounds like we have seen this before. As thoroughly as I enjoyed The Da Vinci Code, and as much as I am currently enjoying Angels and Demons, I can't help but think that this is going to be a more dramatic version of the very fun, very foreheady National Treasure, that I love probably more than logic would allow. Masons, secrets older than America, twists and turns, underground tunnels, it's all there in National Treasure, and seeing as neither of the first Dan Brown films did all that well critically, we may be looking at a 3 strikes and you're out scenario.
But in a world of sequels that get progressively worse yet make progressively more money, it's possible we'll see this one boom onto the scene take all your money and head laughing into the real of DVD purgatory.
Hit the book cover to head over to /Film to read a little more in depth article about the book and story.
