As soon as we left the bar, she started SMURFin' me
Raja Gosnell of Scooby-Doo and Beverly Hills Chihuahua fame has just signed on to take the wheel behind Columbia Pictures and Sony Animation's live action and animation hybrid Smurfs movie. That's right, those creepy blue gnomes are going to smurf their way onto the screen and inevitably back into your living room in standard 2D and 3D form, because hey, why not, right?
Seeing as the Scooby-Doo movies are really fun, we should expect to see the same kind of humor and lightness cross over into the Smurfs movie. But with Beverly Hills Chihuahua the last thing under his belt, skepticism is sure to fly about Gosnell's batting average.
Producer Jordan Kerner has clearly been swept by Smurf-mania:
Our three-apple-high heroes are in good hands, and we feel absolutely positively Smurfy to be working with him.
Well, at least someone is excited. Me? I'm still trying to work out what they're going to do with the story. Is it going to be modernised or will we see more kings and castles on the human side? My curiosities lie in how long it'll take before one of the hundreds of male smurfs gets a little too handsy with Smurfette. Tart.
