Clark Kent just gonna be Clark Kent
Superman Returns met with pretty luke warm reviews, and although it made money, it didn't make THAT much money so a sequel wasn't rushed into production. In fact, the movie's star, Brandon Routh, doesn't even know if there will be a sequel production, which says that we probably won't be seeing one any time soon.
Even if DC wanted to make a sequel to Superman Returns, they would have to re-approach Brandon with a fresh contract as his just expired. What's most unfortunate about this whole mess is that Routh was a great Superman and a perfect Clark Kent. Say what you will about the final product, but this newcomer did a great job. The likeliest situation is that they will reboot Superman altogether in preparation for a Justice League film to match Marvel's Avenger's film that's on the way.
My heart is not broken that we more than likely will not see a sequel, but I feel for Brandon Routh who didn't get the credit he deserved, and probably won't get another shot at the role in a reboot. Sorry Brandon. Go be awesome in a Marvel movie, show them who's the man of steel now.
