Games to Movies: inFamous headed to Hollywood

On top of a laundry list of projects he's going to be writing in the next two years, Sheldon Turner (The Longest Yard, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) has signed on to pen the script for inFamous, released for the Playstation 3 just two months ago by Sucker Punch Studios. Smart thinking to get a film in the works while the buzz for the game is still hot. We may start seeing films trending towards games like this with likely sequels that will help raise awareness of the films. Dead Space released for Xbox 360 in 2008 is in the same boat. A great game with a story they can build off of that has a sequel in the works, which was picked up just this week.

InFamous tells the story of bike messenger turner Raiden-esque wielder of electricity, trying to either restore order to, or spread chaos throughout Empire City, a clever city name really (not really). In the game you have the choice to use your powers for good either protecting people from the gangs or just setting people ablaze in flashes lightning punctuated agony.

It only makes sense for the film industry to start looking more closely at the games industry for ideas because they have been so clearly out of their own for quite some time. Even James Cameron's next piece is going to be refitting Titanic for a 3D release, rather than taking on another project like Avatar which supposedly will change the way we see movies (doubtful).

Hit the image of the lead character Cole MacGrath (younger brother of Sugar Ray frontman Mark) to head over to The Hollywood Reporter for more info.
