Wicked Awesome extended clip from 9!
Before today, I didn't think that I could be more excited about this movie. Shane Acker's 9 since day one has looked like it will be one of the better action films of the year, regardless of the fact that it is animated. Finally a fresh use of computer animation, an animated film geared towards people above the age of 12. Not to say that Pixar film's aren't thoroughly enjoyable by adults, but 9 begs for an audience ready to get away from talking dogs and living toys. Well, maybe not living toys, but living toys whose biggest threat is the neighbor for sure.
Comingsoon.net has presented us with an extended, four and a half minute clip from the piece, and by golly if it's not some of the most fun stuff released this year. Acker does one thing well that I find most people making animated films forget. They forget that films are shot through lenses, and that you can build beautiful shots with a lens, not just tell a story with actors, but tell it with the lens properties. Depth of field, wide angle, motion, these are all things mostly forgotten (with the exception of Monster House and the first half of Wall-E) but Acker has embraced, and his film will be that much more beautiful for it.
