Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way finds itself in the news a second time today as they have decided on a writer for their upcoming Twlight Zone picture. Rand Ravich will be scribing the adaptation which will be based in part on one or more episodes of the original series which ran from 1959 to 1964. The Twilight Zone spanned many genres from 'weird as hell' to 'freaky as shit' so we may be in for a unique piece as long as nothing gets dumbed down.
Ravich's resume is spotty at best, and the short list of works is spread over the last 18 years, so consistency isn't this guys best quality. Writing and directing the Johnny Depp space vessel The Astronaut's Wife, Ravich's most recent work includes creating and writing Life, starring Damian Lewis on NBC. Not to mention Candyman 3.
Leo and Rand have got their work cut out for them. Legion's of fans won't necessarilly act as a built in audience rather than act as built in ultra critics who will already be poised to trash the idea of that little scrub from Titanic having anything to do with their beloved Twilight Zone. There's plenty of awesome to be had in this arena, but also plenty of room to fail.
