Another Resident Evil movie, YES!

Although the Resident Evil movies have continued to go downhill in quality, but up in budget, that didn't stop Paul W.S. Anderson from cranking out another script or stop Sony from wanting to speed through production to get Resident Evil: Afterlife out by September, 2010. However, box office returns have gone up with each release so it only makes sense that regardless of how useless and inane it will definitely be, it's in Sony's best interest to keep the money flowing in.

Shock Till You Drop has this:

Well, we've just learned from a studio insider that Sony is looking to get Resident Evil: Afterlife into theaters by September 17, 2010. That's according to an internal memo circulating through the offices there.

So apparently it's already on the books for Sony and we can definitely expect this one in about a year.

The real question is just how long is this going to go on before it gets the standard Hollywood treatment and is rebooted? There's plently of story left in the Resident Evil mythology, mainly because NONE of the movies have anything to do with the games save for little references here and there and the fact that there are zombies. That the virus is called the T-Virus is arbitrary, as are all the characters.

That's probably the best idea actually. Use reboots/remakes for something positive and make something better that wasn't done right the first time.

And check out this wonderous review of RE: Extinction done by Ryan Davis over at Giantbomb.com for one of my favorite segments, This Ain't No Game. Fans of video games would do well to bookmark that site.
