ORPHAN causing an uproar in the adoption community
The trailer for Warner Bros. latest thriller effort, Orphan, has been airing regularly for the past two months and all the while outraging scores of adoption advocates along the way. The movie centers around a young girl, Esther, who seems quite normal at first but we soon realize "There's something wrong with Esther" and a series of bad, bad times start to flow, instigated by some little bitch making fun of her clothes.
The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute sent an open letter to Barry Meyer, CEO of Warner Bros. requesting an audience to discuss their concerns which are thus:
We are concerned that in addition to its intended entertainment value, this film will have the unintended effect of skewing public opinion against children awaiting families both in the United States and abroad.
The company has addressed several solutions already including adding what Warner Bros. Spokesperson Scott Rowe says is a pro-adoption message to the DVD upon it's release later this year.
The article doesn't say anything about open protests like those fools picketing The Golden Compass, but it looks to be heading that direction, which would in turn just bring even more attention to the piece. News like this is bound to get out, even if at this point they've done nothing but make their concerns known to the production company. However, so that they don't hurt their cause, the Congressional Coalition on Adoption needs to keep their people under control otherwise they're going to do exactly what The Golden Compass people did,put more curious butts in the seats wanting to see it just to know what all the ruckus is about.
