Aronofsky and the Stacked Deck

When Darren Aronofsky signed on to direct the much maligned Robocop remake, fan boys were given some hope that the movie might actually be an interesting interpretation with an actual plot and some smart undertones. However, these hopes may soon be shattered as pieces of Aronofsky's passion project Black Swan, top billed already by Natalie Portman, are falling together nicely.

While there is still the chance that, although it may be a tight fit, Aronofsky, will be able to make both films and satisfy everyone, we could see a new director on board Robocop sooner rather than later. The Risky Biz blog at the Hollywood Reporter has this quote from an insider, though MGM would not comment about it:

But insiders in the rep community say the studio has also quietly put out feelers for other directors who could come on to “Robocop” in case the timing doesn't work out.

Although my Lazy Hollywood category is not my favorite to report in, a futuristic NeoDetroit under the genius of Aronofsky certainly is intriguing. While we still may see that come to fruition, it's high time we dropped our hopes just a little.
