MJ bit pulled from BRUNO hours before premiere

I'll be the first to tell, without any fear of resentment, that I just flat our hated Borat. The 30 minutes of funny (not consecutive minutes) did not make up for the other hour and a half that I was bored off my rocker rolling my eyes at Cohen merely trying to make people feel uncomfortable. Sometimes that sort of stuff is funny, sometimes it's not; and Borat was most certainly not.

I do have higher hopes for Bruno though as he's my favorite character from Da Ali G Show, bringing hilarious satires of the fashion world into full view of his audience. Sadly, the previews for Bruno look like he does the fashion stuff, but couples it with the same old Borat schtick, which to me will ruin the fun.

In Bruno there's a scene involving Latoya Jackson, seen here looking something like the human/alien hybrid from Alien: Resurrection with a heavy coat of make up on it, answering some questions, some of which pertain to her late brother Michael. Maybe you've heard of him. After a few meetings, the producers, studio, and film makers have decided (and I whole heartedly agree) to pull the bit from last night's premiere as a sign of respect for the family.

Larry Charles, the film's director, had this to say about the wide release and future showings:

"We decided to take it out for tonight, and we'll reassess before the release whether to keep it out," said director Larry Charles at the premier's after party. A spokesperson for Universal also confirmed that it had not come to any decision on future showings.

The reason behind their reassessment is that the prints of Bruno have already been made. Changing that many prints individually would be costly of both time and money. Either way, the clip will surely wind up only soon enough, and more than likely it will stay in and just be chalked up as more of Sacha Baron Cohen's only occasionally funny, line-crossing humor.
