Avatar footage shows, Cinema Expo Janitors start to mop
I think James Cameron is an astounding director, especially when it comes to action. Strangely enough it took a recent viewing of his classic True Lies for my brain to say "hey dumb dumb, this guy directs action real good, ya mook." And with Aliens being one of my favorite films of all time, it's hard to not be excited for Avatar.
However, I'm already bored of just hearing things about it. There's been nothing but word of mouth flying around of speculation about how great the movie's going to be and I'm over it. Plus I am not on the 3D-Is-Fucking-Awesome train, I'm on the 3D-Is-Fucking-Useless cruise ship, and it's a way more comfortable ride.
News today dropped that a 24 minute reel of footage showed including a not-quite finished bit from an epic battle sequence, and there's officially double the amount of drool on the floor of the internet as jaws hang open and everyone and their mother report on this.
Overall I was really impressed by what I saw. The effects are in a league of their own. After some disappointing or even pointless 3-D movies, "Avatar" may be the first movie where 3-D is properly utilized.
Coming Soon has a full run down written by someone who is also on my cruise ship if you're interested in reading the full write-up. The quote instills some confidence in me about the movie and just a hint of want to actually get to a theater and see it in 3D. I'd want to do it right though, possible IMAX head trip in December, we'll see.
