Texas ChainSAW Massacre

So it looks like we won't be getting anymore decent movie out of the Texas Chainsaw franchise because the rights are shifting from the Michael Bay owned genre arm Platinum Dunes, to the production company whose only shining light is a long running franchise of BAD films, Twisted Pictures. You know the films I'm talking about. Those ones with the guy who die's about 6 times and makes people do dumb shit for what has become no reason. Yup, the Saw films.

Platinum Dunes has been cashing in on 80's horror remakes with the first two Chainsaw re-imaginings, the reboot of Friday the 13th, and the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street retelling which looks like it should be their biggest one yet. I hated the first Chainsaw remake, but I actually thought the second one was pretty solid, and was what the first should have been, so I was hopeful that if they were going to bother doing another one that it might actually turn out ok. Alas, my hopes are dashed.

Not only has the one decent Saw movie been taken in a totally bad direction with the way too many sequels, but Twisted is already talking about having the guy who wrote The Grudge at the pen for this next Chainsaw blunder and making it in 3D. I officially want to punch the people whoever decided that making horror movies in gimmicky 3D was a good idea. I saw Toy Story in 3D, a kid's movie where 3D is supposed to be effective, and I would have been fine without it. I don't need shitty horror made even shittier by chainsaws swinging at the screen. But I'm not bitter.

The first Chainsaw flicks made a bunch of money so of course Twisted is going to cash in on their new property as soon as they can, unfortunately. So next year look for them to be competing with themselves come Halloween.
