The Fantastic Mr. Featurette

Everyone knows my stance on Wes Anderson and his movies. I enjoy them enough, and based on that I included The Fantastic Mr. Fox on my Fall Movie Preview you should all know that I'm excited to see what he can do with a few SLR cameras and some puppets. I would like to say however that the article where I found this really cool featurette had a few choice things to say about Wes and his movie that I don't think were very nice.

First they accuse him of "not really directing" the film because the featurette doesn't show him on set very much. But if you listen to the featurette, you'll hear the producer say right away that the production had 30 stages shooting all at once. So unless there were 30 Wes Andersons, a la Multiplicity, then of course he's not going to be on every set. Also, they show video of Wes acting out scenes so that each team has a video of the scenes they're shooting and how to shoot it. Sounds like directing to me.

They also say that the movie "looks bad" especially compared to Where the Wild Things Are, because apparently to them if there's a furry creatues in movies, they're all supposed to look the same even though they're filmed in a completely different way. It's apples and oranges. And by the way, The Fantastc Mr. Fox looks great. So the next time you feel like trying to be a douche against this movie, how about straightening your shit out first.

I digress. Here is a very neat behind the scenes look at the technical side of stop motion film making as well as a sneak peak at Wes Anderson acting out his scenes in what looks like a baby onesy. Classy.

I don't gather why they think this movie looks like shit, then compare it to WTWTA... Idiots! I'm pumped for this movie, looks neat and never heard of it until you posted about it a little while back.
