Prepare to get Blair Witched...again

Seeing The Blair Witch Project on opening night even at age 15 was a traumatizing experience. Not only was it before it had been released to the public that it was fabricated, but I lived where I grew up still which was in New Hampshire, a place where trees and wooded areas rule the land. After I saw it I spent the night at a friends house, and instead of sleeping (my bed was lovingly a pile of comforters on his hard wood floor) I spent the night with my eyes closed listening to Demolition Man play on repeat all night. So needless to say I was terrified.

Not to be outdone by the indie horror powerhouse Paranormal Activity (billed occassionally as this decade's Blair Witch) the team behind the shaky cam revolution is teaming up to hopefully bring us another sequel. Bloody Disgusting interviewed co-creators Dan Myrick and Ed Sanchez who are hopeful that soon enough Lionsgate will give them a "Yes or a no or a maybe." They've also been really zipped up about releasing any details about what the film will be other than letting every one know that it will NOT be a prequel that supposedly many people are begging for.

Thankfully, not once during the posted parts of the interview was Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows mentioned. With it's awful production value, endless special features of bullshit scare tactics and shameless cashing in on the title, that movie seems to be happily forgotten by even the creators so with any sort of luck we'll see a solid sequel.

Myrick is quoted as saying:

This is the devil’s triangle in the woods, so anything can happen. If it’s approached in the right way and the audience is given due credit for being thinking individuals, then this could be a cool franchise that delves into a lot of the mythology that has been swirling around this phenomena for years.

Mainly the part that says "credit the audience for being thinking individuals". That would be a nice change in American cinema. Watch movies like [REC] which make you think a little about what's happening, and then compare that to Quarantine which requires all the thought of a coma patient.

I've officially got my ear open with excited wanting for some more info on this. How about you? Did you like the first and would you go see a sequel?

not satisfied with the first, I really wanted all of the suspense to lead up to at least one startle or some sort of conclusion, like instead of ending on blurry video, ending on an arm falling into frame or a cutup shot of her head. Just SOMETHING to relieve the suspense... it's like building up to a really awesome orgasm and then getting punched in the vagina right before it all comes together.... That movie was like a punch to my vagina.

I love the ending of Blair Witch. The last shot when she runs down stairs and her friend is just staring at the wall, TERRIFYING!
