Casting begins for Let Me In

That there is already a remake of Let the Right One In in the works is infuriating to me, and that Matt Reeves who directed Cloverfield is at the helm makes it even worse. Not that I thought Cloverfield was bad, but if Let Me In feels anything like it, I will personally gauge his eyes out with a spoon. The first film is a beautiful and understated coming-of-age love story between a bullied boy and a girl who moves in next door who happens to be a vampire. I have no faith that this remake will have any of the subtlety and beauty that the Swedish original had, but now that some of the lead cast has been announced I have a little more faith that it will actually be a decent film.

Richard Jenkins, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Chloe Moretz are lined up to take the leads. I'm assuming Jenkins is going to play Moretz' guardian who does not speak in the original, so it seems that that little nuance is gone already otherwise they would have hired an actor who isn't so good at delivering lines. You'll get your first real taste of Smit-McPhee as The Boy in the upcoming Cormac McCarthy Apocalypse adaptation The Road. His look is very fitting for the role of Oskar, believable as an outcast in a school of bullies. Moretz is just adorable always, and even though I think she may just be too adorable for the role of Eli, she always does a great job especially for someone so young so I have faith that she'll play the role well.

It was recently announced that the film would be titled Fish Head, which is probably the stupidest thing I've ever heard, but I think they'll probably stick with Let Me In since it's the original title of the book....even though I like Let the Right One In the best.

Filming will be starting very soon in New Mexico, which is another huge location shift from the frozen Swedish town where the original takes place. Subtlety gone.
