To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Ryan Reynolds

I sort of like what Ryan Reynolds has been doing with his career as of late. Not only has he been able to so far balance his resume with equal parts badassery and chick pleasers, he still will take relatively small roll's, like that of his role in Adventureland, to flex his acting chops a little bit. Coming off of the surprisingly watchable rom-com The Proposal, Reynolds will be appearing in two movies you may have not even heard of before hopping into tight spandex for Green Lantern and Dead Pool. Balanced.

Alas, there is bad news on the horizon. Working Title has been snatching up pitches all week with it's most recent acquisition being possibly one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Variety reports that the untitled project follows a man who pretends to be a lady so that he can become friends with his ex in hopes of winning her back. There's no groan loud enough to express just how groan worthy that idea is all by itself, but then you steal Ryan Reynolds' time away from him that he could be spending working on a good project, turning this whole thing into an unbearable tragedy.

Dude-in-drag films occasionally make their mark by being great commentaries about friendship and society, or just by being good films. But this?! “Dude trying to get his girlfriend back.” Wow, exciting. Working Title, please give Ryan Reynolds back to Hollywood and give the lead role for this film (inevitably going to be titled Dressed to Impress, Crossing the Line, or something equally as bile-stirring) to Dane Cook. We're mostly over him anyway.

For those of us who have been on Team Reynolds since Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place, seeing his career slowly grow into what it has become has been satisfying. But this latest announcement may turn into a blow we just won't be able to take. Either way, it'll be fun to see what new and exciting reasons they find to get Ryan Reynolds' shirt off.
