Gandalf the Grey on The Hobbit/Magneto

Still surviving many troubled times, Guillermo del Toro's The Hobbit seems to be on due course for its scheduled Spring production start date. This is contrary to a report I got from a New Zealand insider who was told the movie had been postponed indefinitely, but with continuing reports that the movie is chugging along, it seems that the gun may have been jumped.
Empire magicked a few answers out of the one and only Sir Ian McKellen about the next installments of two series that made him geek royalty: Lord of the Rings and X-Men. According to McKellen, the scripts for both Hobbit films are on their way to being completed, at which point final preproduction steps will be made (scheduling and budgeting), and then the apparent 383 days of production can begin. That is a whopping amount of shoot days, but in context, del Toro was maybe over exaggerating.

Each bit of news released about this upcoming series has "nerd boner" written all over it, and this is the first step to seeing McKellen reprise one of his most beloved roles.
On the other hand, the evil and misunderstood Magneto stands to have his own origins filmed, but McKellen makes the very good point that he's old as dirt and an origins film would revolve around a much younger Magneto.
"They can't have someone whose face is as lined as mine any longer!"
This one I'm not nearly as hopeful for, but if McKellen is involved in any capactiy then I'll have to give it a chance. Wolverine was just so broken that I can't bring myself to think that the franchise will ever be fixed.
