Wrapping up this unnecessarily long preview is James Cameron's epic 3D ocular rape-fest Avatar. After Where the Wild Things Are, Avatar is a close second for movies I'd touch inappropriately between now and Christmas. 

Seeing the trailer proved one thing to me: James fucking Cameron is back and he's going to destroy us with awesome. Sure I had my problems with what I saw, but I'll never count Cameron out just because of a little overhyping. The action looks like true James Cameron and history has shown that this dude knows how to make a damn awesome action film. Even his low rent stuff like True Lies is full of some of the best action you can find, not to mention the perfection that is Aliens, and Terminator 2.

This may be the one movie to sell me on 3D, according to everyone who is reporting that 'This is 3D done right'. I hate gimmicky bullshit, but from what I'm hearing, the 3D is used only to immerse you further into the story and not have you flinching at rock flying at you or dogs sneezing on you.

Closing the fall out, Avatar looks to be one of the best action movies of the year. Well, not that Terminator: Salvation, Wolverine, or GI Joe are any competition, but Avatar will certain crush them under a rain of empty machine gun shells.

The Road is the next of Cormac McCarthy's novels that are getting the big screen treatment after the Coen bros. virtually destroyed any chance at anyone making a more awesome movie than No Country for Old Men, but that's not stopping the bald as hell John Hillcoat from taking a stab at it. And by the looks of things he may have just put together a piece to stand tall next to the Coen's masterpiece.

Viggo Mortensen rarely if ever disappoints so his involvement already means that there's going to be a bottom to how bad this movie can actually be, and even if The Road hit that bottom, it would still be pretty good. Skilled actress who's made some questionable choices Charlize Theron co-stars adding to the short list of talent. Short because there's not many actors in this post-apocalyptic adventure, not because I think the other actors are shit.

The movie defines gritty as Viggo and his family generally look like they haven't showered in decades and the setting is nothing but destroyed towns and cities, forests of leafless trees, and dirty skulls on sticks. The Road is my number 3 most anticipated list.

I've never been one to verbally ess the dee of director Wes Anderson, but I do enjoy those movies of his that I have seen (which I'm sorry Rod is not quite all of them) and think that his style is unforgettable and infinitely recognizable in the best way. So that The Fantastic Mr. Fox is being directed by him has me a little bit more excited than if it were being directed by some newber, but the real thrill for me will be to see a film done in traditional stop-motion animation. The look and feel of Mr. Fox that you get from the trailer is perfect so imagining the large scale stop-motion assault of the full length movie has me pretty charged up.

Following Clooney on the IMDb credits is a list 10 actors long of names you may recognize: Meryl Streep, Owen Wilson, Brian Cox, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, the list goes on and on. With Mr. Fox basically bursting at the seams with talent it's impossible to not be mad pumped to see what Wes will do this time.

Topping off the big November 6th weekend is The Fourth Kind, the Milla Jovovich abduction scarefest made even scarier by the REAL footage from actual hypno-sessions conducted in Nome, Alaska. Milla comes right out to us in the trailer and says, "Hey heads up, you may shit your pants at the scariness of this so check yourself before you wreck yourself," though possibly with more eloquence than my publicly schooled brain can come up with.

I love horror movies, and when one comes around that borders on drama, sort of like the Mothman Prophecies, it gets me all excited because to me those are the most effective. The realism adds so much more to the scare factor than any sort of Cloverfield monster or Freddy Krueger can add, and the fact that The Fourth Kind is stacked with actual footage from these events means that this will probably have me sleeping on the couch falling asleep watching my Rocky and Bullwinkle box set for a few weeks.

I'd love to say that I'll be in the theater at midnight for this, but more than likely it'll be a noon showing so it's nice and day time outside when I get home to my one bedroom apartment by myself.

Comedy.

Read as 'Comedy, Period'. The cast is laden with comedy gold in the form of George Clooney, Ewan McGregpaddle, and the Dude himself Jeff Bridges who appears to even be channeling his Dudeness for his hippied out military role in The Men Who Stare At Goats. 

Based on a true story, the movie is about an elite group of "psychic" warriors, one of which may actually be able to do some damage. That sounds like the plot of a bad sci-fi movie, but in this case with Clooney and Ewan teaming up it's promising hilarity at every turn.

Didn't realize how little I had to say about this movie other than "Wow, this looks awesome and hilarious" so I'll leave it at that.

This thing that Robert Zemeckis is doing is pretty sweet. His style of motion capture animation has developed nicely into this mixture of photorealism and the surreal creating wholly believable worlds where fantasy seamlessly blends with reality. There's no denying that Beowulf looked amazing (with the exception of Angelina's mildly melty face) and A Christmas Carol has taken it again to the next level.

I love a good Christmas movie. Hell, I even love a BAD Christmas movie (AKA Jingle All the Way. Love.). But now by the looks of things I'll get to add another high quality iteration of one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time to the list of movies I'll be watching on loop from Thanksgiving til New Years. I grew up on A Muppet Christmas Carol and the Disney cartoon version so I'm thrilled to add to the growing collection, even though you'd think it would get repetitive.

Protip: it doesn't.

Boondock Saints has long been a favorite of mine. Yes, even before it became the crazy, cult phenomenon that we all know and love, I was renting this movie on VHS with my dad and marveling at its awesome violence and copious use of the fuck word. One month from now we get to experience a new chapter in the Saints' mythology which Norman Reedus promises in the trailer will have plenty of 'gratuitous violence.'

The original was charming in a way that's going to be very hard to match and by the looks of things it's totally NOT going to match it at all. But does that mean I'm not going to get excited for it? Hell no! More guns, more swearing, more slo-mo, all means that I'll be thoroughly entertained by this movie regardless of my "dumb action movie" clause. Another bonus will be that there's an honest to goodness woman in this movie, not cracked out whores or Willem Dafoe in drag.

You'll certainly catch me at the midnight showing of this looking for the next month's most over used catch phrase.

Cirque Du Freak piqued my interest not really because I'm into vampires, but because Universal is taking a pretty huge risk by putting out some competition for Twilight that doesn't involve Indians with 8 abs showing at all times or two really awkward lead actors.

John C. Reilly hoping into the lead role means that there will at least be one character that I like in this seeing as he's one of the most talented actors working today. Appearing on the side are some other names that bring a little excitement to the table in Ken Watanabe (of The Last Samurai among many many others), and Salma Hayek whose excellence in her current role on 30 Rock landed her character a spot in 6 episodes of season 3. You may also recognize Josh Hutcherson who is trying his best to make a name for himself but ruining it by doing movies like Firehouse Dog. Go get Bridge to Terabithia though and check him out in that. It's a great movie.

My worry with Cirque is that I'm definitely over this vampire craze. I've seen enough vampire love stories in the last year to last me a lifetime and even Park Chan-Wook's Thirst couldn't save me from overheating. However, that Cirque doesn't look specifically like it's being made to capitalize on the plague that is modern vampirism I definitely am expecting something a little strange and different on October 23rd.

No joke, this is my number 1 most anticipated movie for the remaining months of the year and I'm really hoping that it lives up to what I'm building it up to be in my head, which unfortunately is something that hasn't worked out to my advantage really at all this year now that I think about it. But I'm not giving up all hope just because Terminator, Wolverine, Harry Potter, and Thrist all offended me on a personal level.

Probably the most exciting concept of Where the Wild Things Are is that the Wild Things themselves are practical and not just CGI creations. This makes me happy. Why? Because it fucking looks better than making things 100% in a computer world and hoping that you'll be able to mesh it well with the on set footage. Disregard how amazingly realistic District 9 looks for a moment while I make my point. We're going to be seeing actual actors intereacting with actual Wild Things and not actual actors (or actor in this case since Max is really the only person in there) interacting with heads on tall sticks.

It looks to be one of the most emotionally charged films of the year even though most of the characters are just big hairy suits. Look for me at the midnight showing of this for sure.

God will answer my prayers only if he grants this film a wide release, or puts it in an Orlando theater during it's limited run. Night of the Demons makes the list for all the wrong reasons since it's the only film that I'm going to mention that I'm excited about because it's going to be one of the biggest train wrecks in horror-remake history.

There's not even a trailer yet and I can tell you this movie is going to be a mess. You know how? Because their top billed actor is Edward "Fatty" Furlong. If you can name me one movie he's been in since Detroit Rock City I'll give you a damn reach around because I'm confident that not only did this dude fall off your radar, but now that he's back on it you'll be asking him to kindly get the fuck off again. Paired next to the almost as forgotten Shannon Elizabeth, Night of the Demons will undoubtedly have audiences checking the integrity of their theater's exit doors and I can't wait to see it happen.
